FAQs

  1. Just how fast does my Internet connection need to be for my login to work?

You'll need a 256K or higher connection, which means dial-up cannot handle the conference. If you have access to cable modem or DSL (or a free wireless connection with either), you'll be able to login and participate in the conference.

  2. I'm a little concerned that I might have technical troubles on the day of the conference and be unable to get into the first session on time. Will you have tech support available?

Tech Support will be on call throughout the entire conference. In addition, we will have a one-hour window of time prior to the first session (from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. CST) for everyone to get logged in and make sure their connections are working properly. If you have any difficulty with your login code or with the sound or visuals once you are logged in, David in Tech Support will be available to walk you through what you need to do to get properly connected. We strongly recommend that group leaders (particularly those using an overhead projector or sound system) log in as close to 9 a.m. CST as possible. This will give plenty of time to work through any login issues. We do not anticipate widespread problems, since we are testing the conference interface here on our end and working to make sure it functions smoothly.

  3. Who can qualify as a group leader?

Anyone! If you'd like to gather more than three people in your home (outside your immediate family members), you can be a group leader. Simply check the group leader option when you register, and that will allow your friends to register at the discounted price ($15) as members of your group. [Group leaders pay for a single login, which is at the regular conference price.]

  4. We've got moms and daughters registering as part of our group. Do they need to register separately as participants?

No. Immediate family members (one mom and daughter; one mom and six daughters; etc.) just need to register once (for $15).

  5. It looks like some of the conference sessions are running concurrently. Do we not get to hear the session that's running at the same time as the one we choose to attend?

There are two "breakout" sessions running concurrently at 11 a.m. CST and two running concurrently at 1 p.m. You will choose one breakout session to attend "live" during the conference, but all participants get to download the recorded sessions for free, so you'll get to hear the session you missed. It would make the conference too long for most participants if we ran each session individually in its own time slot. With concurrent sessions, this online conference works just like most in-person conferences, where you have to choose one of several "breakout" sessions to attend. But you won't have to pay to hear the sessions you miss if you are a registered participant, since you'll get all the recordings for free.

  6. I am a group leader. I really don't know how I can choose which two breakout sessions my group should listen to! It looks like some sessions are meant for daughters and others for mothers. Do you have any recommendations?

We know it will be hard to choose which of the sessions to hear live, because all of the speakers have good things to say! First off, all sessions are appropriate for both mothers and daughters. The sessions on "Homemaking 101" and "Managing the Home with Little Ones" are aimed both at overwhelmed moms and daughters who are being trained to manage the home and bring up children. The sessions on visionary daughters and teenage rebellion are, likewise, appropriate for both mothers and daughters. Now, as a group leader, you do have another option for your participants. If you have a large group, you may want to register for two logins. This means you'd be able to login one computer in one room and another elsewhere. Your local attendees could choose which of the two sessions they wished to attend and go to the appropriate room. This gives greater flexibility on your end and eliminates the necessity of taking a vote on which breakout sessions to "broadcast" to the entire group. We do still want to encourage moms and daughters to attend sessions together, however, since the whole point is to be able to discuss the talks together later. If you're interested in registering for a second login, please contact us.

  7. Will I need to sit down to listen to each conference session, or is this something I can listen to while I work around the house?

Each speaker will have a visual presentation to go along with her talk, so you might miss something if you aren't watching while you listen. However, you can always watch the visuals later after downloading the recorded sessions if you wish. So, yes, you can just turn up the volume on your computer and listen while you work!

  8. How soon after the conference ends will I be able to download the recordings?

It depends on how quickly our technical folks can get the recordings formatted and available on the server, but the goal is to have them edited (cleaned up for maximum quality) and available within a week.

  9. If you're charging non-participants for the recordings, how will I get mine without paying?

You'll be sent a special login link that will allow you to download the sessions at no cost. Even if you forgot to download your MP3s right after the conference, you can download them months later using your conference login information. All we ask is that you keep your login information private.
